AnimeJapan 2021 Winners

AnimeJapan 2021 “Manga we want to see animated” Poll winners!!!

A short but celebratory post. A quick glance at the announced winners. Source.

No surprise, Solo Leveling, Spy x Family, and Komi Can’t communicate on the list. Spy x Family and Komi have been winners multiple years, yet still no anime confirmation. Probably just a matter of time though, given their long lasting and current popularity.

Solo Leveling, now that popularity spiked insanely in the past two years given its truly astounding art style despite the mediocre story. I personally still enjoy it, it’s a fun manhwa with great action scenes. And the protag is a badass. It’s kind of interesting that despite the poll being “Manga we want to see animated”, it still included korean manhwas.

Guess that’s all there is to see.

….

……….

…………………..

Just kidding. How could I have missed the greatest win. I’M IN LOVE WITH THE VILLAINESS AT RANK 5!!! I called it in my prior post, but I’m still grinning like a fool. Given the recent release of the first two light novels in English, and the huge success of the recent manga adaptation, is this a surprise to anyone? I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire yuri community banded together to show unity for this win. (sorry other yuri nominees Tadokoro San, Yuri is my job, Whispering you a love song). A win for yuri, is a win for all yuri.

What’s even more crazy, is that it’s possible they only saw the manga for I’m in Love with the Villainess, which is only 9 chapters in currently that barely scratches the surface of the novels. Despite the original webnovel source having just finished, there is still one more japanese light novel to be released (TBD release date). Two of the four current novels are out in english, and there’s hope for the rest to be released in english as well. The manga is quite popular as well, thanks to its large and passionate fanbase.

Why am I saying all of this? It is because the likelihood of an anime adaptation is contingent on two major facts: boosting sales of the source material and gauging interest on potential anime. The interest is definitely there, and the light novels have not been fully released yet, and the manga adaptation is still going strong. I’m no expert, so take this with a grain of salt of course.

Another factor is the steady rise of yuri (or yuri vibes) anime in the anime market. Every season, there’s always at least one yuri anime, or multiple subtext yuri anime being released. The demand is there, and the fanbase is ravenous. Looks like it’s I’m in Love with the Villainess’s time to pick up the torch. When it does get released, we’ll probably see a release date of late 2022 or even 2023. Patience is key, yuri will win at the end of the day.

You go Rei, here’s to your anime adaptation in the future.
